The owner actually was in the car hauling business in the early 80s. One of his jobs was to take
two pilot cars (possibly D8 and D9) from their EPA testing in California to DMC's offices in Michigan
for destruction in the summer of '82. He offloaded one of them, then heard from the DMC employees
that he most likely wouldn't get paid, since even they hadn't received paychecks because the factory
was going to be shut down. So he kept the other one, promising to return it when he received payment....
but he never received the payment and it has been in his possession ever since. This car shouldn't even
be in existence today and should have been scrapped. He was able to get a lien on it and get a title
from the state of Michigan, but the car currently sits in a warehouse.
